Community Literacy Outreach Program
Through our Community Literacy Outreach Program, Literacy Victoria offers marginalized adults free help with reading, writing, math and computer skills. This occurs through partner agencies and in shelters.
Our community partner agencies provide the space. We provide the supplies, equipment, and trained literacy outreach volunteers. Each program has learning activities developed to fit clients’ interests and needs, the organization’s space, and Literacy Victoria’s resources. Trained literacy volunteers work with clients to help them set and reach their own learning goals. There may be one-to-one or group work.
Our current outreach programs include our Mobile Computer Lab, Bookmobile, and Prison Literacy Program.
We also have literacy tutors at the following sites: Seven Oaks, Mustard Seed, AIDS Vancouver Island, Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society, Capital Mental Health, Access Health Centre, and the Victoria Native Friendship Centre.
