First Nations (Aboriginal Learning Program)

As visitors, we give thanks to the Coast Salish people for allowing us to live and work within their traditional territories.

Literacy Victoria provides free adult literacy programming within First Nations communities across southern Vancouver Island.

These learner-centered programs utilize the approach and philosophy of other Literacy Victoria programs, yet also reflect and respect Aboriginal resources and ways of knowing.

The Aboriginal Tutor Training program gives volunteer tutors the skills they need to effectively support the learning goals of Aboriginal learners. It is facilitated by an Aboriginal tutor trainer, and uses a train-the-trainer approach to build community capacity on each reserve.
